meet daily and help each other out just like most sisters do. Although their households are not affluent, they live very near each other.Their unique bond was created during the Holocaust when Janina and her mother took cover in Maria's parents' home in an Warsaw apartment. Maria's parents were Roman Catholics who protested against the Nazis during the Holocaust.Janina's mother soon passed away due to tuberculosis, leaving a barely 8 year-old Janina with Maria's family.
